Dr. Simon HC Anderson MRCP, MD

Simon is a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He also leads an acute Internal Medicine Firm at St Thomas Hospital.
As one of the foremost practitioners in his field, Simon set up and leads the video capsule endoscopy service and balloon enteroscopy service at Guy’s and St Thomas Hospital.
His interests include all therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease,) Irritable Bowel Syndrome, capsule endoscopy, balloon and spiral enteroscopy.
Further interests include research into techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of small-intestinal diseases. He is also a co-investigator in several clinical trials in the treatment and genetics of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
He is a peer reviewer of several medical journals and has published widely on gastroenterological and internal medicine topics. He presents at national and international meetings.
He is a Head Tutor for undergraduates at King’s College, London University and is a regular teacher and clinical examiner of the KCL postgraduate programme.

Qualifications and Accreditations
Simon graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1990. He then underwent higher specialist training at King’s College Hospital (Liver Diseases and Intensive Care) and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital (Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine.) He was awarded a Wellcome Institute Research Fellowship and moved on to conduct full-time research at St Thomas’ Hospital. He was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of London in 2004.
